2009 Annual MAA Banquet

Keynote Speaker: Dustan Knight

Dustan Knight, watercolorist from New Castle, was the keynote speaker. She originally planned to do a slide presentation on critiqueing Art, but decided it will be more fun to do critiques. She critiqued a variety of artists' pieces.

Dustan Knight

Dustan KnightDustin Knight is a professional artist with a MFA in painting from Pratt Institute in NY and a MA in Art History from Boston University. She retired from teaching full time at the NH Institute of Art where she was, among other things, Chairman of the Foundations Department. She currently teaches workshops throughout NE. She is a past recipient of the NH State Fellowship for the Arts and a resident of MacDowell Artist Colony in Peterborough NH and Cunningham Artist Community in the Berkshires. She has won numerous awards including a grant from the State Percentage for the Arts Program for a 21" x 7" watercolor tryptch in a Dover NH courthouse. Dustan exhibits her work throughout the United States, particularly in NE.

Dustan's current large scale watercolors are mounted on hard panels and finished with UV resistant acrylic varnish. Frequently flowers as well as landscapes and seascapes, Dustan's watercolors celebrate the brilliant color fluidity and vitality of the medium. A recent series is inspired by vintage kimonos. The Kimono Series explores the elegant designs and subtle colors of antique oriental silks.

You can find Dustan's web site at DustanKnight.com, where she writes:

After a fabulous fall and winter working on commissions with Art Three, I am hard at work in my studio putting the finishing touches on some gorgeous new works for the 2009 summer exhibition season. The paintings are a bit more atmospheric and poetic than last year... must be the weather!

As most of you know I have been writing art reviews for Art New England for the last ten years. Find me in "Regional Reviews". I have recently had a short piece published in Accent's "Lifestyles", a colorful glossy magazine about living the good life in New England. My article is about art glass and the next issue is on silversmithing. I love promoting the arts!

Kimono Series show at SNHU was written up by Manchester Newspapers and had over 1000 visitors!

Our annual banquet was held on June 1st at the Puritan Restaurant at 6:30pm.

The event included our Artist of the Month program, announcement of our scholarship winner and our artist of the year. A great evening was had by all.
